Last summer, while riding the train from Boston to NYC, I couldn't help but think about the agonizing pain my feet were about to incur...

This wasn't your average sneak away with your husband kind of a weekend. This was going to be a full blown sightseeing, day at the zoo and Nightmare at the Museum kind of trip.

While my kids were coloring and my husband was working on his laptop, I was agonizing about the clothes I had brought; a cute pair of white cotton pants (very long) and some light-washed denims (even longer). Both I thought, great choices for the perfect family weekend in the Big Apple. However, the shoes weren't going to be ideal for walking and I knew it. Well, I did pack a pair of high wedged "sneakers". Those might work, right? Wrong.

When I buy them, all my jeans are long to start. Even when I alter them, I am doing so to wear with heels. So I'm thinking, what am I going to do? Look cute or drag my pants all over the city? The bottoms would be filthy and I would positively murder the cuffs.

I am one of those girls who LOVES her heels... I love looking taller than average (sometimes I even lie about my height) and I love designer jeans. Put those two things together and what do you get? Sore and tired feet... But hey, it's better to look good than to feel good, right?

• What about the professional who rides the train to work every day and is still a few blocks from her office? Is she doing all this traveling in heels and ruining her feet and shoes before the start of the day?
  
  
• What about the hair stylist or makeup artist who starts the day in heels and by lunch time is in flats with rolled cuffs?
  
  
• What about the girl who is all gussied up for whatever she has planned that day, but has to run home to take the dog for a quick walk around the block?
  
  
• What about the stylish teacher who has recess duty and won't fare too well in heels on the blacktop?
  
  
• What about the friends meeting for dinner or going to a club only 7 blocks away? Too short a distance for a cab on a busy Saturday night. Do they want to attempt this in heels before the dancing even starts? And forget it if it is raining or there is snow on the ground...
